Okay, this had better be in the official Blu-Ray.

The toughest thing about the shield was making it believable that [Captain America] could throw this thing, have it bounce off something, then take some guy out and have it come back to him. We tried some practical stuff, where he’s throwing a rubber shield. Nothing worked until we handed it over to Chris Evans, until we said, ‘Okay, we’ve got this shield. It’s this wide, it weighs this much. What would you do? How would you throw it?’ And he came up with some really interesting ways of doing it. He had nothing in his hands, he was just miming the actions. It was basically Chris Evans’ ability to mime throwing and catching the shield that made it work.”

"Chris [Evans] worked his butt off for four months—doing gymnastics, fight training, stunt training—so that he could stand in in a scene like this and then go toe to toe with Georges St-Pierre and then make it look really credible. And I think he did a fantastic job…Once the helmet comes off, 95% of this is Chris."

Joe Russo: Our process a lot of times is film geekdom and I think it was Stravinsky who said, “Good musicians don’t borrow, they steal.” Well, we steal a lot. And this is Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back getting tortured. I remember being eleven or twelve in the theater watching him scream as they walked away and thinking, “Oh my God, that’s horrifying.”

Anthony Russo: Our innovation was to remove his shirt.

booty vs booty

I’m always amazed how much control Chris has over that shield. When Tom turns it is swinging around uncontrollably, while in Chris’ hand it stays perfectly still.

It’s bc when Chris turns he doesn’t swing his arms out, his body stays still and he steps into the turn, while Tom iterally swings the shield in front of him, you can see his torso turns first as well. Tom just doesn’t know how to turn with the shield, Chris has mastered it completely bc HE IS CAP FOREVER

He’s just got such a gregarious nature and so full of energy. I don’t know where he gets it! I don’t know how he sustains it. But when he’s on set everyone’s smiling and when he’s not there after a few days, you say “Where’s Mackie?” He just breathes life into his environment. And he does like to say “Cut the check!” - Chris Evans
