cue the most awkward hug of the year
Loki visits him in his dreams, or at least Thor would like to believe it is Loki, visiting him every night to punish Thor for all the times Loki had stood by him and Thor had taken him for granted.
Sometimes Loki would smile and recite sweet stories with him under the big tree in their garden, or sometimes Thor would take rest by placing his head on Loki’s lap as Loki’s long fingers carded through his hair.
It always started out sweet and it would always end with Loki taking his life with a smile.
Tonight is no different.
Loki takes Thor’s hand and knots their fingers together and asks Thor to take a walk with him the Asgardian shore. Loki smiles at him shyly and bumps his shoulder against his every other step. Loki would lean into Thor’s side and Thor would relish and smile against his brother’s presence and take a hand to pull him in closer to his side.
They stop at some distance and sat down on the beach to marvel up at the sky where lights of other worlds twinkled down at them.
Loki rests his head against Thor’s shoulder and Thor tilts his head to rest his cheek on top of Loki’s head.
“I wish this was real,” Thor says quietly.
“What was real, brother?” Loki asks leaning back so he could see Thor’s face.
‘So green… so alive’ Thor says to himself as he looks into Loki’s dark green eyes.
“I wish this was real, us. Together at this moment. You alive and not fallen into the dark and well and happy by my side and I… not filled with regret and guilt…”
Loki smiles at Thor as if smiling amused at a silly child.
“Oh Thor, what on earth are you talking about?” Loki now sits up and makes way to stand on his knees infront of his brother.
“I am very real, unfallen and so very happy with you by your side,” Loki says earnestly and then takes Thor’s hand and places it upon his heart, “Here- feel it beating, for you and for me- I am alive and well and so deliriously happy.”
Thor breaks contact with Loki’s eyes to look at his hand on Loki’s chest, feeling the strong heartbeat underneath his hand and the green tunic. Thor smiles, relived. Then he looks up at Loki and his heart turns to stone.
The smile on Loki’s face has changed. Turned into the too wide smile that is placed upon his brother’s face every night before he kills him.
“I am here and so very happy, Thor. You believe me don’t you?” Loki asks. Thor’s eyes become hot and his hand on Loki’s chest falls heavily down onto his lap again. He knows it is soon. Soon Loki will kill him again.
“Yes,” Thor says closing his eyes. He feels Loki climb onto his lap, still standing on his knees so that when he takes Thor into an embrace Thor’s face is right upon where Loki’s heart is.
It is not beating anymore.
“I am here, Thor. By your side, so very happy,” Loki says-then a sharp pain comes from Thor’s back then threw his heart. He does not have to see that tonight Loki had taken a simple knife to his heart as his method of kill.
“I am so happy, Thor,” Loki says taking an arm and wrapping them around Thor’s neck.
Thor cries into Loki’s chest and agrees.
“I too am very happy, brother.”

I loved this scene how it started with John leading and Sherlock following him all sad and lost and desperate.
It’s kind of sweet and sad that Sherlock is using all the same compliments that John has said to him before. Like he had no other references for what a good compliment is, because he’d never really been given any before John turned up. And in his head he’s just going “I was happy to be told these things. I will make John happy by telling him the same things also.” And then he tried to think of his own little compliment and it comes out as a sort of insult. Even though coming from Sherlock it’s actually the biggest praise ever, because he’s saying “You make me more intelligent.” And being clever is his most important thing.
